The 6-Month Riding Season
Maine’s riding season is short, sometimes only five months. Most of the cart business is built around that calendar: spring service in April and May, riding season through October, winterization and storage from November through March. Dealers who survive in this market are good at logistics, not just sales.
Where Maine Dealers Operate
- Portland and southern Maine (Kennebunkport, Ogunquit, York)
- Bangor and central Maine
- Augusta
- Mid-Coast Maine (Brunswick, Rockland, Camden)
- Inland lake regions (Sebago, Moosehead) via regional delivery
Why Pickup-and-Return Matters Here
Many Maine cart owners are second-home owners. They show up Memorial Day, ride for the summer, and head home Labor Day. Pickup-and-return service means the dealer comes to the coastal or lake address, picks up the cart at the end of the season, stores and winterizes it, and returns it ready to go in spring. If you fit this profile, look specifically for shops that offer this as a flat-fee program.
What to Ask Before You Buy
Ask about seasonal storage capacity (it fills up by August), the pickup-and-return service area, NEV/LSV titling through the Maine BMV, brand authorization, and what’s included in the spring service when the cart comes back to you. Many shops bundle pickup, storage, winterization, and spring service into one annual fee.
